Will Athens break into the top 20 European climate tech hubs?
Entry to Europe's top 20 climate tech hubs takes ~$55–100M a year and 10+ deals. With €376M raised by new Athens-based funds in the past year, we think Athens can get there.

Will Athens break into the top 20 European climate tech hubs?
The bar for entry today is ~$55–100M annual capital and >10 deals at the city level. Given how much Greek VCs have raised in the past 12 months, we think this bar is very much within reach:
Climate investors
Skybound Venture Capital raised ~€38M (1st close May 2026)
Sporos Platform raised ~€58M (closed Apr 2026)
Investing For Purpose raised ~€25M (1st close Dec 2025)
Generalists
Uni.Fund raised €50M (Fund II, 1st close Jun 2025)
Big Pi Ventures raised €130M (Growth I, 1st close Sep 2025)
Marathon Venture Capital raised €75M (Fund III, closed May 2025)
That's €376M from only a selection of new Athens-based funds, each with strong climate, impact, circular, and deep tech theses. If even a small share of this is deployed into Athens-based climate tech, and co-invested alongside international funds, Athens could plausibly reach this bar in the next few years.
But will it? Our prediction is... yes, and soon.
